With the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, Congress created the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to assure safe and healthful working conditions for working men and women by setting and enforcing standards and by providing training, outreach, education, and assistance. OSHA is part of the United States Department of Labor.
NYC DEPARTMENT OF BUILDINGS
The Department of Buildings promotes the safety of all people that build, work, and live in NYC by regulating over one million buildings and construction sites across the 5 boroughs. With a focus on safety, service, and integrity, the Department enforces the City’s Construction Codes, Zoning Resolution, and the NY State Multiple Dwelling Law.
NYC LANDMARK PRESERVATION
It is responsible for protecting New York City’s architecturally, historically, and culturally significant buildings and sites by granting them landmark or historic district status, and regulating them after designation.
CRANES AND DERRICKS
The Cranes & Derricks Unit (C&D) oversees the design, installation, and safe operation of equipment used for hoisting or lifting purposes. The Unit does not regulate equipment installed on water.
